La Petxina: where to stay near the Turia gardens and the Mercat Central
A quiet residential barrio in the Extramurs district, on the south side of the old Turia riverbed and west of the old town. The park runs along its northern edge and the Mercat Central is about a kilometre east.

La Petxina is one of the four barrios of the Extramurs district, along with el Botànic, la Roqueta and Arrancapins. Its northern edge is the drained Turia riverbed, now the Jardí del Túria, with the Campanar district on the far bank. El Botànic lies immediately east, and Avinguda de Pérez Galdós marks the boundary with Nou Moles to the southwest.
Distances from our two buildings are short: roughly 450 to 700 metres to the botanical garden of the University of Valencia, about 600 to 900 metres to the Torres de Quart, and between 1.0 and 1.3 kilometres to the Mercat Central. All measured in a straight line.
For the Turia park
The Jardí del Túria runs the full length of the barrio's northern edge. It is a continuous green corridor in the old riverbed, free of cars, used for running, cycling and walking. From here it leads east into the city and west towards the Parc de Capçalera.
A lived-in barrio
People live here, it is not a tourist quarter. Everyday shops, bars, a municipal library, a health centre, and the district market a few streets east. If you would rather sleep outside the old town and walk into it each morning, La Petxina is placed for that.
For longer stays
The Petxina sports and cultural complex is inside the barrio, with a municipal pool, a gym and a library in the halls of the former slaughterhouse. Add the botanical garden and the park, and a good deal sits within a few hundred metres.

Getting around
Túria station, on Metrovalencia lines 1 and 2, is at the northern end of the barrio by the riverbed. Àngel Guimerà, roughly 600 to 900 metres south, is the interchange where five lines meet: 1, 2, 3, 5 and 9. For the airport, lines 3 and 5 run through from Àngel Guimerà to Aeroport.
EMT buses 60, 62, 63, 64, 67, 73, 92, 95, C2 and C3 all call at stops inside the barrio, on Gran Via de Ferran el Catòlic, Avinguda de Pérez Galdós, Carrer de Quart and Passeig de la Petxina. On foot, the riverbed is the traffic-free route east into the centre.

Questions about staying here
Is La Petxina a good area to stay in Valencia?
It suits people who want a residential barrio rather than a tourist one. You are on the Turia park, outside the old town but within about a kilometre of the Mercat Central, with a metro interchange to the south.
How far is La Petxina from the Mercat Central?
Between 1.0 and 1.3 kilometres in a straight line from the two SariStays buildings, depending on which one you are in. The market stands east of the barrio, inside Ciutat Vella, close to the Torres de Quart.
How do I get there from Valencia airport?
Metrovalencia lines 3 and 5 both run from Aeroport to Àngel Guimerà, the interchange just south of the barrio where five lines meet. From there you can change to line 1 or 2 for Túria station.
Which metro stations serve La Petxina?
Túria, on lines 1 and 2, sits at the northern end of the barrio by the riverbed. Àngel Guimerà, roughly 600 to 900 metres to the south, is served by lines 1, 2, 3, 5 and 9.
Is the Turia park really next to the apartments?
Yes. The Jardí del Túria forms the northern boundary of the barrio, and the Petxina sports complex stands on Passeig de la Petxina alongside it. Both SariStays buildings are a few hundred metres from the park.
Which district is La Petxina in?
Extramurs, the district immediately west of Valencia's old town. Its other barrios are el Botànic, la Roqueta and Arrancapins. La Petxina is the northern one, bordering the Turia riverbed.
