Arrancapins is one of the four barrios of the Extramurs district, on the west side of Valencia's nineteenth century expansion. It borders La Petxina to the north, La Roqueta and Russafa to the east, La Raiosa to the south and Patraix to the west, with Gran Via de Ramón y Cajal marking its eastern edge.
From Carrer de Martínez Aloy, where our two apartments are, Estació del Nord lies about 850 metres east and Plaça de l'Ajuntament roughly 1.1 kilometres north-east. The Mercat de Russafa is about 1.3 kilometres east, and the nearest stretch of the Turia gardens is around a kilometre and a half north. The streets here are flat and laid out on a grid.
Quiet nights, central days
The barrio is residential rather than nightlife territory, so evenings stay calm. The centre, Ruzafa and the station are all within a couple of kilometres, so you can spend the evening in the busy parts of Valencia and still come back to a street that sleeps.
Easy arrivals by rail
Estació del Nord sits about 850 metres east, and València Joaquín Sorolla, the high speed terminal, is closer still at roughly 650 metres. If you are coming in by train, or heading out on day trips by rail, you barely have to cross the city to reach a platform.
Better for longer stays
Arrancapins is where people actually live: bakeries, hardware shops, a municipal library and a sports centre inside the old Mercat d'Abastos. For a stay of several weeks, when you want groceries and a routine rather than souvenir shops, it works better than the old town.

Getting around
Five Metrovalencia stations sit within about a kilometre. Pl. Espanya, roughly 490 metres away, is on lines 1 and 2. Jesús, about 540 metres, adds line 7. Bailén, around 650 metres, is on line 7. Àngel Guimerà, some 700 metres north, is served by lines 1, 2, 3, 5 and 9.
Xàtiva, beside Estació del Nord, has lines 3, 5 and 9. Lines 3 and 5 both terminate at Aeroport, so the airport is a direct ride with no change. EMT buses C3 and 71 run along Avinguda de Pérez Galdós at the end of the street, and lines 9 and 27 use Carrer de Jesús nearby.
